How far would you go to defend the idea of an open press?
This documentary follows Dmitry Muratov, the editor of Russia’s only independent newspaper as he struggles to maintain freedom of the press in the face of violent reprisals, including the murder of journalists and an acid attack that left his eyesight permanently damaged.
The film’s focus is on the period following the invasion of Ukraine, when Muratov remained determined to continue reporting on events in his homeland, despite huge personal risk.
Halo provided full Picture and Sound Post Production.
Director, Patrick Forbes says, “The support throughout has been amazing, and the final stage of post has been absolutely top class – whether it’s Adam in online, Paul in the grade, or John in the mix. A real feeling both of people who are at the top of their game, and only too willing to go the extra mile – and that’s such a reassurance when you’re doing something as risky as this.
It has also transformed what was originally supposed to be a C4 hour into this multi version, multi territory monster! Honestly, we could not have done it without them, or the wider Halo team.
Prior to that, the care and attention to detail that went into handling the rushes was exemplary, and really paid off in the edit. Same goes for the support that Karen and Monika gave us every step of the way.”
