QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL

QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL – digitally re-mastered for the first time into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience®?, including 12-channel surround sound and crystal-clear images. Experience rock & roll royalty with Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon as they take to the stage in an historic and exhilarating live concert from 1981. One of the world’s most iconic rock bands performs an unforgettable setlist of their greatest hits including ‘We Will Rock You,’ ‘Somebody To Love,’ ‘Under Pressure,’ ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ ‘Another One Bites the Dust,’ and ‘We Are The Champions.’

This is Queen like you’ve never seen before in a larger-than-life, front row concert experience – only in IMAX.

Mixed by Simon Hill at Halo.

Simon Hill Said… “After 3 years of on-and-off collaboration between myself, Rosie Holley (Mercury), Kris Fredriksson and Justin Shirley-Smith (Queen Productions) – Queen: Rock Montreal is getting to show itself off at the IMAX! I’ve worked closely with the exceptionally talented Kris and Justin to get this sounding truly special in the latest IMAX 12.0 sound format – developing ideas I started in February 2020 and getting deep into the balance of every instrument and vocal to make this performance truly sing. This isn’t just your typical stereo-to-5.1 upmix – we’re adding tons of crowd layers to immerse you in the audience, using 3-dimensional reverbs to replicate the sound of the venue, making the most of object-based panning to bring movement to the sounds and instrument delays that ping around and above you. We put a lot of time into attaching certain featured vocals/instruments to the uniquely-sized IMAX screen so you are drawn to what you’re seeing, while detaching others so you can feel the width and scope of the auditorium around you. Working with a new sound format can be tricky, but with the help of IMAX we were able to sanity-check our studio calibration and test our mix translation in their BFI and Science Museum IMAX systems. Huge thanks to the invaluable Rosie at Mercury for having us on board – it’s a unique project and one I am super proud of.

Head of Post Production at Mercury Studios, Rosie Holley said… “Working with Simon Hill on this project has been any absolute pleasure. Simon was able to bring experience and professionalism with a thoughtful and calm approach to the technical complexities that can arise on a job such as this, we are all incredibly proud of Simon and the team and what they were able to achieve and cant wait to work on the next one.
